The S3-A is a three-way shielded active monitor utilizing unique state-of-the-art materials and technology to provide exceptional imaging and extraordinary sonic detail.

One of the strongest features of the S3-A is ADAM’s proprietary A.R.T. (Accelerated Ribbon Technology) folded ribbon tweeter. Different from any other tweeter offered in any pro product, it squeezes air in a 4:1 ratio rather than moving it like a piston in a 1:1 ratio. This technology remains unique to ADAM and puts their monitors in a class by themselves, delivering extremely open and detailed HF response and outstanding imaging with a huge “sweet spot”.

The diaphragms of the woofers are made of a special material called HexaCone™. The core is a honeycomb structure made of a very light and stiff material called Nomex™, and is coated on both sides with Kevlar™. HexaCone™ diaphragms are far stiffer and more rigid than any other cone material, producing remarkably tight and accurate response.

The S3-A takes an unusual approach to how it handles incoming signal. Although it looks like a traditional D’Appolito design, it is not. The S3-A is a three-way speaker - one woofer acts as a full-range driver with the second woofer joining it only below 150Hz down to 32Hz. This effectively doubles the area and power of the woofer (each driver has its own amp) when it needs to respond to deeper frequencies, resulting in an exceptionally deep and tight low end without compromising midrange performance.

The S3-A can be used either horizontally or vertically, so that very flexible positioning within the studio is possible. While it is true that optimal time alignment will be achieved by orienting them vertically, many end-users prefer the slightly wider image produced by orienting them horizontally (landscaping). This extra imaging adds even more dimension to the sound of the S3-A, and does not affect the way in which work done on them translates to other systems.
