From sound design to music creation, discover the new standard in customized workflow. Bitwig Studio inspires you to take greater control of your productions, giving you access to every aspect of your workflow as needed. Streamline your creative process and quickly take your music from ideas to complete songs, tracks and compositions. With Bitwig Studio, you’re in command of a workflow that works best for you.

Record and arrange, improvise and perform, or do it all at once. Choose between several display profiles. Design your own sounds with dedicated container devices. Combine built-in instruments, effects, and VST plug-ins. Bitwig Studio’s unified mapping system allows you to modulate any device or VST parameter using macro controls and modulator devices.

Explore a new world of creative possibilities, including audio and note expressions, histogram-based value editing, layered editing, extensive bounce-in-place functions, automatic slicing, smart controller integration, and the Open Controller Scripting API. Every feature in Bitwig Studio was developed by musicians, for musicians. Welcome to the next generation of music creation and performance software for Windows, Mac OS X, and Linux.

Features

WINDOWS, MAC OS X, LINUX

All for one, one for all.

The next generation of software for sound and music creation is available on all three major platforms: Windows, Mac OS X, and Linux. Produce, share, and collaborate from completely different machines. When it comes to which operating system you wish to use with Bitwig Studio, the choice is yours.

INTEGRATED USER INTERFACE

Customized workflow to match any style.

Today it’s possible to make music with any DAW. What sets each one apart is workflow, how quickly you can realize your ideas, and the freedom to choose how you produce and perform. In Bitwig Studio, use the Clip Launcher alongside your arrangement to draft your song‘s layout on the fly, or use it exclusively as a performance tool. This is one of many features that demonstrates Bitwig Studio’s seamless integration of multiple views into your workflow as needed, the way you want it.

PLUG-IN SANDBOXING

Damage control.

Never again will a single plugin take down your entire project. The “sandboxing” feature built-in to Bitwig Studio ensures plug-in crashes will not interrupt valuable production time, or better yet, your performance on stage. Choose 32-bit, 64-bit, or choose both. No third-party bridging is necessary to run your favorite plugins side-by-side. Bitwig Studio protects your workflow while efficiently running your VSTs for non-stop creativity.

UNIFIED MODULATION SYSTEM

Modulation redefined.

Modulating one parameter from the next often means losing hands-on control – until now. Bitwig Studio is hard-coded with a Unified Modulation System, allowing you to easily link any device parameter, including nested internal devices and VST plug-ins, without losing hands-on control. Never before has modulating virtually any parameter between devices been so simple. Nothing is locked, so you can manipulate on the fly to find the perfect range of modulation. Make your devices take on a life of their own, create dynamic relationships between sounds, and hear your music begin to breathe.

OPEN MULTIPLE PROJECTS

Limited to one idea? Think again.

The bassline from your last session could be the missing piece of your current project. The rhythm section in your latest song carries perfectly over to the next. No need to close anything or dig through complex file structures. With Bitwig Studio, open multiple projects at the same time and drag-and-drop between them.

OPEN CONTROLLER API

Your controller just became a lot smarter.

“Smart controller“ takes on a new meaning in Bitwig Studio. The Open Controller API is accessible not only to you, but also to third party manufacturers for complete integration of your favorite controllers like never before. This feature allows you to freely edit existing control maps direct from the companies that design your controllers, or to easily create your own. Get the most out of your gear with hands-on control of parameters that mean the most to you, and take full advantage of every pad, knob, button, and key at your fingertips.

DETAIL EDITOR

Everything in its place.

Bitwig Studio is designed to offer unprecedented flexibility by eliminating boundaries at every step of music creation and performance to give you greater control over your workflow than ever before. The Detail Editor revolutionizes audio editing by allowing you to perform non-destructive editing within a clip, allowing you to stretch, split, pitch, pan, copy, reverse, add, move and re-arrange audio as you wish. Edit multiple tracks in the same view, edit notes using audio as a reference, isolate your view to one clip or expand it to see the everything in the entire track. Consider the Detail Editor your very own limitless creative space.

Go wild.

DYNAMIC OBJECT INSPECTOR

Build up your ideas, faster.

Start with a groove or motif, take the idea that inspires you from the start and quickly transform it into a complete composition. Bitwig Studio introduces new ways to keep up with your inspiration. Take the Dynamic Object Inspector, it allows you to select multiple notes or events and edit them together with an interactive histogram, easily adding variations as you go.

INCLUDED DEVICES

Made in Berlin.

Each device in Bitwig Studio was designed in-house using a modular system integrated in the application. The modular system will be available to anyone using Bitwig Studio in the future. A simple click will allow you to modify any existing device, or create your own. Our selection of current devices demonstrate the power hidden beneath the hood of Bitwig Studio, where limits are defined by the scope of imagination.

TOLCHA STUDIOS

Clavinet, Rhodes, Melody Synth

Tolcha is an acoustic/electronic four piece band based in Berlin. Their sound is best described as an ever evolving future-vintage Sci-Fi movie score with a hint of Film Noir and a heavy Dub signature. The project originally kicked off as a 3 piece around the year 2000. Since the very beginning their live shows incorporated self produced synchronized videos – a signifier for the love of cinema, which is still the main inspiration for their music.

After several visits to Tolcha's studio, three of their outstanding instruments can be found among our sound content packages: the String Orchestra, Clavinet, and ever-important Fender Rhodes.

tolcha.de

DR. POWER'S WURLITZER

Four velocity layers of pure funk.

There are some sounds a library can't do without, such as the classic Wurly sampled to perfection. Our good friend Stephen Grawe let us sample his freshly refurbished Wurlitzer e-piano. Download the package within Bitwig Studio 1.0 to experience four velocity layers over five octaves of pure funk.

SNEAKY

Acoustic Bass

Played by electronic/acoustic artist Sneaky (Manchester, UK), and sampled in the Tolcha studio, this package features acoustic bass that’s warm, realistic, and a bit dirty. You’ll find the samples as presets in the Sampler, sorted by articulations and playing styles. Some slides and sound effects are included.

Visit Sneaky at http://sneakytunes.tumblr.com

FREAK ASS E

Vibraphone & Marimba

Freak Ass E is a DJ, producer and instrumentalist from Berlin, and cool enough to let Bitwig sample two of his instruments for our library collection. When downloading packages from inside Bitwig Studio 1.0, be sure to check out the sounds of his vibraphone and marimba.

NEKTAR

Acoustic Drums

The makers of the venerable Panorama controller line put their expertise into a superior collection of drum samples for Bitwig Studio 1.0.

Nektar's Acoustic Drums features a large collection of acoustic drums using many articulations and a variety of sticks. The samples are saved in kits and Drum Machine presets consisting of a single drum with all the articulations and strikes included.

More keyboard than you ever imagined.

The Impact LX88 is a unique USB keyboard controller designed for keyboard players looking for extra reach.
From the 88 note, semi-weighted velocity sensitive keyboard, 8 velocity sensitive pads to the rubberized fader
caps, low-profile and light-weight design, Impact LX88 feels, looks, performs and is supported like a class act.
DAW integration with most of the popular DAWs makes it easy to get going and a breeze to set up.
With Impact LX88 the hard work is done*, so you can focus on your creativity.

alternate textKEYBOARD

The 88 note semi-weighted, velocity sensitive keyboard delivers a balanced medium tension. The full-size, piano-style keys are covered to protect against dirt and dust while also complementing the Impact LX88 design. With 4 velocity curves gradually increasing in dynamics there is choice for any playing style. If you don't need velocity, 3 fixed velocity levels to caters for a consistent output. Transpose buttons as well as pitch bend and modulation wheels are within reach, so you quickly can shift the keyboard up or down as needed, or apply additional articulation with the wheels.

SPLIT, LAYER & TRANSPOSE BUTTONS

The Impact LX88 keyboard can send on up to 3 zones at the same time. Press Layer to add the layer zone and split to add the split zone. When split or layer is active, the corresponding LED button is lit so there is no confusion. Each zone can be programmed to send on it's own unique MIDI channel with essential settings either pre-programmed or adjustable during performance.

This is where the 2 Transpose buttons below the Split and Layer buttons come in. Four functions are selectable on the fly so you can make important changes at any time, even while you play. A key combination makes assignment quick and easy with the LED display telling you which function you have selected. Choices include sending out MIDI Program Messages, change the Global MIDI Channel or select any of Impact LX88's 5 user presets with either the Octave or Transpose buttons. Pressing either split or layer while pressing the Transpose buttons will change the setting currently assigned for the corresponding zone. Neat!

CONTROL CENTER

Nine 30mm faders, 9 MIDI buttons and 8 encoders are at the center of Impact LX88's control panel. Each control is fully programmable to send any MIDI CC message for use with hardware or software MIDI products. Used with Nektar DAW integration, the controls take on a life of their own, providing flexible pre-mapped DAW control giving you the best of both worlds. Control settings can be stored in any of the 5 Impact LX88 presets for recall at any time. And if you switch Null on for Presets, any parameter values are stored when you change presets so you avoid parameter jumping.

PADS

For groove and beat creation Impact LX88'S 8 velocity sensitive pads makes life easy. Each of the large 3x3cm pads can be assigned to any MIDI note number or MIDI cc message, for use as MIDI trigger or toggle buttons. But the best part is the "Pad Learn" feature which allows you to just select a pad, play the note or drum sound you want on the keyboard and assignment is done. No complex menus for a task that's essential for getting the most out of your pads. Assignments are stored over power cycling so you don't lose your settings when you switch your system off for the night. In addition, 4 pad map locations can store your settings for future recall.

USER PRESETS & PROGRAMMING MIDI
If you mainly want to use your DAWs MIDI learn features, Impact LX88 is easy to come to grips with.
There are 2 non-overlapping, read-only presets on the Mixer and Instrument buttons so you can quickly switch between independent and
unique setups. These presets are also used for Impact LX88's integrated DAW support.
In addition, 5 user presets are programmed for GM compatible and "learn-friendly" setups plus they can of course be overwritten with your own settings.
With the Impact LX's "Null" function switched to on, parameter values are stored when you switch between presets so you avoid parameter jumping.

DAW CONTROL

Impact LX88 offers the same powerful Nektar DAW integration support as it's Impact LX siblings and is compatible with most popular DAWs. A common workflow gives access to many of the functions you are most likely to need when recording and performing with your Impact LX88. The best part is that it's all done for you. All you have to do is complete the installation process and start making music. Impact LX DAW integration currently supports Cubase, Digital Performer, Garageband, Logic, Nuendo, Reaper, Reason, Sonar and Studio One. DAWs are different and the Impact LX DAW integration caters for each DAWs uniqueness while maintaining a common workflow. Relying on your computer screen for constant feedback, important and essential windows related to what you are controlling can be open and closed as needed, right from Impact LX88. The following is a brief overview of the common workflow.

TRANSPORT & NAVIGATION

The 6 dedicated transport buttons are always within reach and mapped to control Cycle, Rewind, Forward, Stop, Play and Record. Additional alternate DAW functions include Track up/down and Patch up/down to change your instrument patches are available via the display buttons.

MIXER PRESET

Press mixer and the first 8 Impact LX faders are assigned to control 8 channels of your DAWs mixer. The alternate Bank up/down function moves control assignments to the next or previous group of 8 channels. The 9th fader is assigned to the currently selected channel so you always know where to find it. The buttons under the faders follow the channel assignment of their corresponding fader and can control Mute or Solo. Pan for the group of 8 channels controlled by the faders is handled by the 8 pots. To help you get the best out of your screen real estate, Impact LX also has shortcuts for opening and closing your DAWs mixer window so you can see what's going on.
INSTRUMENT PRESET

The Instrument preset assigns all controls to instrument parameters once an instrument track is selected in your DAW. Using Nektar mapping, a typical control layout places amp and filter envelopes on the faders and the parameters that have the biggest impact on the instruments sound, on the pots. This means you often have filter cutoff and resonance on pots 1 and 2 for example. Using a unique Impact LX "grab" mode you can quickly assign parameters for individual instruments to controls and create the setup you want. The hardware is done, but flexibility remains.

VIDEO CORNER

The Impact LX integration with the included Presonus Studio One Artist software is much more than controlling mixer volume with the faders. See for yourself however plugins can be navigated and controlled and how you can set up loop points in Studio One, right from Impact LX.

The FL Studio integration allows navigation of plugins and control of them without reaching for your mouse. Navigate instruments or fx plug-ins and customize the mapping to your liking. Setup mixer control or just change volume for the currently selected track using the 9th fader. It's all covered in this video.

With Propellerhead Reason, Impact LX controls the mixer, devices and transport. The video gives a solid overview of how you are able to control instrument devices such as Kong and Subtractor as well as setting loop points in the sequencer. Impact LX is more than a companion to Reason, it's part of the system.

Check out how the Impact LX controls Steinberg Cubase or Nuendo. A full overview including how to set location points, use the soft-takeover to avoid parameter jumping and saving map files for instruments.
